1. Sidi abdulsalam - ziytan close to misrata

2. Libya August 2026

  • Tripoli is significantly safer than expected
  • also way more fun, very free and cheap?
  • Tourism most of the cost?
  • Oil is all in the east, you can sort of see this
  • No visible guns in the west?
  • Also more amaziegh stuff in the west?
  • Misrata war museum is intense
  • Lots of culutral stuff to do in misrata
  • Saw a horse back competition
  • Tripoli is a large, modern city
  • Beaches are quite nice, but split between really ugly (shabab ones) and family friendly ones

    • Private beach clubs seem quite common?
  • Very clear that there's lots of byzantine infleunces, early churches, roman baptisms. The west is largely roman while the east is very greek.
  • Leptis Manga, Sabratha, Al Kuhms
  • More diversity than expected
  • And very little stares when it comes for foreigners, definitely not expected
  • Electricity seems quite good?
  • m3adla, adjusted, for coffee
  • eastern libya was definitely rougher
  • Signs of Haftar everywhere, definitely more central and personality based
  • People said infrastructure was better in the east but seems no? Roads are worse, maybe electricity is better
  • Way less tourists in the east, partially because of the 600 dollar visa fee?
  • Met some archeologists from italy who were digging stuff up
  • Otherwise I had a pretty good time, things that surprised me was the lack of care for foreigners? In Iraq, I'd spend way more time avoiding stares, but that seemed to not be a problem here. Unclear why?
