I’m writing this just as I’ve passed my A1 level exam for Spanish. Currently, the hope is to be conversationally fluent in Spanish by Thanksgiving 2023, but we’ll see how that works out as time goes on. Given that this is my fourth language, I figured I’d write a little about what works and what doesn’t work.

Language learning, in my opinion, is actually an extremely boring ask, filled with mostly just one thing: reptition. Hours put into the language is directly correlated with how much of the language you know, and while there’s some slight tricks you can apply, in the end it’s just hours of classes and Anki.
